Photo Upload

Picture Success.

It has often been said that "a picture is worth a thousand words" so it's not surprising that the value of a printed page increases as you add photographic content. Coincidentally, full color printing is sold for a premium over one and two color work and is less likely to be displaced by the internet or downloadable PDFs. Making content more personal or relevant increases it's value even further. How do you do this? The answer lies in marrying content - photos, logos, messages, and data - to corporate identity materials and targeted mailings.

Photo Upload For Everyone

With the advent of high quality digital cameras, quality digital photo content has never been more readily available. PageDNA's software allows your customers to upload photos or logos using a simple web-based system compatible with any modern web browser and requiring no custom software, plug-ins, Java - or Computer Science degrees - to master.

The ability for the PageDNA system to marry stored content from a user profile along with dynamic content provided on an ad hoc basis gives your customers the fastest and most efficient way to create personalized custom print online today.

Photo Storage in Profiles

Sales agents - such as Real Estate agents - increasingly include a personal photo on business cards, flyers and direct mailed postcards. As these photos usually stay the same from one order to the next, PageDNA has developed a way to store one or more photos permanently in a user "Profile". We support most popular formats including EPS, GIF, JPEG, and TIFF. Profile configuration and access is highly configurable for each customer's unique needs.

Ad Hoc Photo Upload

The need to upload photographic content for "one time use" is a common requirement on many printed pieces. For example, in Real Estate, each new direct mailer or flyer corresponds to a specific listing of a new home for sale. PageDNA's software provides users with a point-and-click interface for ad hoc uploading of new property photos for the ultimate in personalization.

Photo Fitness

We give your customers' photos a rigorous background check so you don't have to. Uploaded photos not meeting quality standards are blocked, the user alerted as to the nature of the problem, and then are instructed to upload again. Quality checking features include:

File Type

Supported file formats for upload include JPEG, GIF, TIFF and EPS. Certain file types can optionally be disabled on a photo-by-photo basis. For example, GIF images are often of a lower quality than JPEG images of the same size. If your output requires high quality for the primary "showcase" photo, GIF uploads could be disabled for that particular image.

File Resolution

On a per-upload basis you can elect to check the file resolution (size) of a user-uploaded photo or logo. This is important to ensure that a user is uploading sufficient resolution for the print application at hand. The system can check for a minimum width and/or height, or optionally just check that the shortest edge is longer than a specified value.

Aspect Ratio

In some cases, it is important that an uploaded photo have a certain aspect ratio (width vs. height) for a given design. When enabled, the PageDNA system can either give users an alert if the aspect ratio deviates from a configurable range, or the photo can be auto-cropped to fit into the "picture frame" on the product.

Color Space

In certain printing applications, it is desirable to enforce certain color space requirements. For example, you might want to only allow a color photo for a particular photo.

Photo Manipulation Options

PageDNA's VIPER technology allows uploaded photos to be scaled, cropped, layered and aligned on the fly. Most end users are not experts in layout and design so sites may "programmatically" transform the layout for the best results depending on user input. Typical scenarios include scaling or cropping photos to fit inside a picture frame, adding borders, centering the image in a given space, or aligning photos based on other graphic elements in a given layout. If you wish to offer black and white versions of certain products, color photos uploaded by users can be converted to black and white on the fly.

Importing Users' Photos into Profiles

For some customer ordering applications, it is desirable to pre-load as much user data to ensure a smooth launch. Data imports often include not only text information such as names, titles, and contact information but also digital photos that need to be imported into the PageDNA Profile System. To help facilitate this process, PageDNA has numerous internal data manipulation and import tools. For example, when importing photos, PageDNA can check each photo for quality, filtering out bad photos before they get to user profiles - and onto printed products.
